Samsung is not only the biggest Android manufacturer. It’s the top smartphone maker, racing past Apple with no problems. It’s not easy to get to where they are. Surely, there must be something they are doing right.

In this post we will highlight where Samsung is winning and how other manufacturers could learn from the Korean giant. How did Samsung grow to be the king? There’s a mixture of factors, but here are the top 5 things we think make Samsung a winner.

Disclaimer: I am not a Samsung fanboy, guys. Actually, I am far from being one and have been known to tell them their truths. This happens to be part of a series of posts. With that said, let’s jump into the Samsung goodies.

Resistant smartphones

Samsung may not be the best brand in terms of build quality. In fact, their phones often feel cheap and plasticky compared to the competition. Now, this doesn’t mean the phones will be beat and destroyed easily.

In fact, Samsung has taken on the habit of making very resistant phones. The Samsung Galaxy S5 touts IP67 certification. This means it is completely dust resistant and can be submerged in water (1 meter for up to 30 minutes).

Thankfully other manufacturers are following this trend as well, but it wasn’t long ago that a simple drop to the pool would result in a ruined smartphone.

Removable batteries and microSD card slots

Boy is it hard to find a phone with a microSD card slot these days. It’s even more impossible to find a phone with a removable battery. These features have become a thing of the past as manufacturers focus on build quality, design and thinness.

The fact is many of us would give up one or two improvements to get removable batteries and microSD card slots back. And there is proof to this – many users request these features to come back!

Samsung is the only one willing to keep these options available, and they do it with most of their devices. Why can’t everyone else do the same?

Marketing, marketing, marketing

No one beats Samsung in marketing. Ok… maybe Apple, but Samsung is still known as one of the kings of marketing in the mobile industry. The Korean manufacturer spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year just on marketing.

Spending money won’t just get you all that fame, though. Samsung is currently portrayed as a “cool” smartphone brand, with fun celebrity endorsements and advertising that never fails to spark a smile in its audience.

Their “The Next Big Thing Is Here” campaign has been a hit, directly challenging Apple. And we all know people shouldn’t really mess with Apple. Taking these risks allowed them to reach the top of the smartphone food chain, though.

Samsung is now one of the most recognized brands in smartphones. Their branding is so good that we often hear people referring to them as “Galaxy phones”. Sometimes they even call non-Samsung devices “Galaxies”. That’s how you know you have taken over your market.

Other manufacturers tend to be much more traditional with their commercials and ads. People want something they can have fun with, as well as something they can relate to. If you can’t step out of you comfort zone to promote your device, customers won’t step out of theirs to purchase your expensive devices.

Something for everybody

Samsung definitely doesn’t take breaks. The company is working year round to bring you its devices, and we all know they have many devices. Samsung is releasing devices left and right. Small phones, big phones, huge phones, affordable phones, expensive phones, curved phones, phones with projectors and more.

That’s not to name their other projects, which include VR headsets, wearables and accessories. They are digging their hands wherever they can, and they have a gadget to fulfill whatever needs you may have.

This has allowed Samsung to take on all the niche markets. Samsung is literally everywhere. Other manufacturers try to keep people happy with fewer products. Every mind is its own world – what makes them think we will all be happy with just a few options?

Wide availability

Not only do they have something for everybody, but Samsung has its products widely available to everyone. We know some of this is due to Samsung’s global scale and resources, but they have their availability down.

Many other manufacturers make awesome devices, but you can’t support them because their phones are simply not available. Samsung’s smartphones can be found everywhere. Their phones are in every market, country, carrier and smartphone store.

Samsung is everywhere….
